About Scott
Scott, Louisiana, is a small city in Lafayette Parish and Scott real estate is in a location that is favorable for the continued growth that has been experienced. Highway 90, State Highway 93 and Interstate 10 intersect in this suburb of Lafayette, providing residents with access to numerous amenities while maintaining the small town feel that is a highly desirable aspect today. The city is a part of the Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area with a population of 8,614. Scott homes for sale include single-family homes, small to medium apartment complexes and mobile homes. There is a variety of new construction and the majority of homes were constructed between 1970 and 1994, followed by homes built between 1940 and 1969 as well as historic homes constructed prior to 1939.
Scott is located 39 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. This location provides residents with a number of activities including swimming, fishing and boating. The city is divided by the Northern/Santa Fe Railway, which is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. This railroad’s main line was formerly the Southern Pacific Railway. The town was incorporated in 1907 and named after J.B. Scott, Division Superintendent of Southern Pacific Railroad. Scott became a town in 1960 and a city in 1990.
Residents of Scott real estate are served by the Lafayette Parish School District. A 100-year old Acadian home serves as the tourist center. Scott’s Welcome Heritage Interpretive Center provides information on cultural events and local history and is home to a Cajun gift shop in addition to providing tourist information. A walking trail encompasses an Arboretum located at the entrance to the city when exiting I-10. There are 3 parks located in Scott.
Many who come to visit decide to relocate here due to the atmosphere projected by the city and the friendly people who reside in Scott. A first place recipient in 2011 of the Clean City contest sponsored by the Federation of Louisiana Garden Clubs, Scott also took 2nd place in the state contest in 2010 for its division. Scott real estate is an attractive option for families, retirees, young professionals and many others who prefer suburban living.
